Escaped Cattle Block B5 - Two Accidents - Cows halt traffic on German highway after causing two crashes
A stretch of Federal Highway B5 in Dithmarschen was shut down after cows wandered onto the road. The incident caused two separate collisions between vehicles and the animals near Heide.
The disruption began when several cows escaped from a nearby field and made their way onto the B5. Authorities quickly closed the highway in both directions between Heide-West and Hemme to prevent further accidents.
Despite the chaos, no human injuries were reported. Two cars, however, collided with the escaped cattle before the road was secured. Details about the exact number of animals involved or the containment measures remain unclear.
The highway remained closed until the cows were safely removed from the road. Traffic resumed once the situation was under control. No further incidents were reported after the reopening.
