CSTO Unveils 2030 Defence Roadmap as Russia Prepares for Leadership
The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) has outlined plans to strengthen its military cooperation over the next decade. At a recent summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, member states adopted a roadmap for defence collaboration until 2030. Russia, set to take over the group’s presidency in 2026, will push for modernisation and expanded joint drills to boost regional security.
During the summit, leaders reviewed the results of recent joint military exercises. They praised the improved combat readiness of member forces and committed to further enhancing coordination. The final declaration also called on the US to back Russia’s proposal for a 12-month extension of the New START Treaty.
The roadmap adopted at the summit sets clear defence priorities for the CSTO until 2030. Russia’s upcoming presidency will focus on modernising capabilities and expanding joint training programmes. The group’s stance on military bloc expansion and arms control reflects its broader strategy to shape regional security dynamics.
