Curaçao Gaming Authority Undergoes Leadership Changes, Maintains Regulatory Role
The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) has undergone a significant change in leadership, with the Supervisory Board stepping down and the political-administrative responsibility transferring from the Minister of Finance to the Minister of Justice. Despite these changes, the CGA's regulatory duties, including licensing and supervision, will remain unaffected.
The CGA, previously known as the Gaming Control Board (GCB), was established on 19 April 1999 to oversee gaming activities in and from Curaçao. In December 2024, following the implementation of the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK), the GCB was renamed the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA).
On 19 August 2025, the responsibility for the CGA was officially transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Justice. This change was announced publicly on 13 October 2025. The Supervisory Board of the CGA resigned in mid-September, and the government has begun the process of appointing new members.
The transition of the Supervisory Board and the change in political-administrative responsibility from the Minister of Finance to the Minister of Justice will not impact the CGA's ability to perform its regulatory duties. The CGA, governed by a Board of Directors and supervised by a Supervisory Board, continues to ensure fair and responsible gaming in Curaçao.
