Cyclist critically injured after car collision at Gifhorn bike crossing
A cyclist suffered severe head injuries after a collision with a car on Braunschweiger Straße in Gifhorn on Monday evening. The accident happened at a designated bike crossing when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz failed to see the cyclist in time. Emergency services rushed the injured man to hospital in critical condition. The crash took place at around 10:10 PM. A 65-year-old man was driving a Mercedes-Benz GLC when he struck a 54-year-old cyclist crossing the road. The driver did not spot the cyclist in time at the marked bike crossing.
The cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered heavy bleeding from head injuries. Paramedics took him to a hospital in Braunschweig, where he remains in a critical state. The driver escaped unharmed, and his vehicle received only minor damage. Police closed off the area while they examined the scene. The investigation lasted about an hour before traffic could flow again.
The cyclist remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the accident. Traffic on Braunschweiger Straße returned to normal after the police completed their work at the scene.
