Czech Giant Launches Licensed Artillery Ammo Production in Ukraine
Czech defense giant Czechoslovak Group (CSG) has initiated licensed production of large-caliber artillery ammunition in Ukraine, marking a significant step in bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities and diversifying its supply sources. This project, launched through Ukrajinska Bronetechnika, has an initial annual capacity of 100,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition and 50,000 rounds of 105mm ammunition, with plans to expand production and achieve 80% localization. This is Ukraine's first production of large-caliber ammunition under a foreign license, with CSG providing the license, technical documentation, and key components, while Ukrainian Armor manufactures shell bodies and conducts filling, assembly, and testing. Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of Ukrainian Armor, emphasizes the significance of this cooperation for Ukraine's defense industry. CSG chose the licensing model for its simplicity over a joint venture, with David Chour, CSG's Vice Chairman, expressing pride in being one of the first Western companies to transfer such production to Ukraine. The Czech political party ANO, which recently won parliamentary elections, has no plans to cancel the Czech Ammunition Initiative for Ukraine, under which CSG is supplying artillery rounds to Ukraine. CSG's launch of licensed large-caliber artillery ammunition production in Ukraine is set to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and reduce its reliance on foreign suppliers, with an initial capacity of 150,000 rounds per year and plans to expand, marking a significant step in Ukraine's defense industry development.
