Czech Initiative 'Gift for Putin' Funds Ukrainian Long-Range Missile DANA 1
The Czech initiative 'Gift for Putin' has successfully raised funds to purchase a Ukrainian long-range cruise missile, the FP-5 Flamingo. Named 'DANA 1' after Dana Drábová, the missile will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Over 8,000 donors contributed to the campaign, which reached its target in less than two days.
The fundraising appeal, launched on October 22, raised a total of $520,000. The missile, once paid for, will be at the Ukrainian forces' discretion. The Flamingo cruise missile has an impressive range of 3,000 kilometers, a top speed of about 900 km/h, and can carry a warhead of up to 1,150 kilograms. It uses a jet engine adapted from Aero L-39 Albatros trainers and incorporates advanced electronic counter-countermeasures and hardened GPS guidance.
This is not the first time 'Gift for Putin' has funded military equipment for Ukraine. Previously, the initiative has provided an RM-70 rocket launcher, a T-72 tank, and a Black Hawk helicopter. The name of the largest donor for this initiative has not been publicly disclosed.
The DANA 1 missile, a significant addition to Ukraine's arsenal, is expected to bolster their defence capabilities. The successful fundraising campaign demonstrates international support for Ukraine's efforts. The missile's long range and substantial warhead will provide a strategic advantage in the ongoing conflict.
