Czech students explore Tönisvorst in cultural and language exchange trip
A group of 17- to 20-year-olds from the Czech Republic arrived in Tönisvorst on March 16 for a five-day visit. The trip aims to strengthen cultural ties and give students a chance to practise their German language skills in real-life settings.
During their stay, the visitors will tour Düsseldorf's Landtag and the House of History. They will also explore the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in nearby Krefeld, taking in local culture and politics.
The group is spending time at the Michael Ende Gymnasium, joining classes and connecting with German students. Mayor Schagen met with them to discuss Tönisvorst's long-standing partnership with Staré Město, their Czech twin town. He also listened to the students' thoughts on the exchange. A return visit to Staré Město is already scheduled for September 2026, ensuring the exchange continues in both directions.
The programme offers Czech students practical language experience and deeper cultural understanding. It also reinforces the bond between Tönisvorst and Staré Město, with future exchanges already in the planning stages.
