DA-Davao lambastes claims Davao FMR project 'sold' to contractors

Two major Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) projects in the Davao region have been completed in early 2025. These include an 8.81-kilometre road in Barangay Glamang, Magsaysay, and an upgraded route in Barangay Tagbitan-ag, Island Garden City of Samal. The developments follow ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure linking farms to markets and highways.

The Department of Agriculture in Davao (DA-Davao) has also addressed recent claims about irregularities in project allocations, urging the public to rely only on official updates.

The newly finished FMR in Barangay Glamang, Magsaysay, spans 8.81 kilometres and cost P177 million. Another upgraded road in Barangay Tagbitan-ag, Island Garden City of Samal, was completed at a cost of P29.76 million. Both projects aim to boost local agriculture by improving transport access.

Earlier, in mid-2024, two additional FMR segments in Davao City were handed over to communities, with a combined investment of nearly P57 million. These projects form part of a broader initiative, with the Philippine Rural Development Project reporting over P1.2 billion spent on FMR and related infrastructure in the region.

DA-Davao has rejected allegations that FMR projects are being improperly allocated to contractors. The agency emphasised that all projects undergo strict validation, evaluation, and approval processes before implementation. Funding comes from both national budgets and donor-assisted programmes, ensuring transparency and competition in bidding.

To prevent misinformation, DA-Davao has advised the public to check only verified official sources for updates on FMR programmes. The department reaffirmed its commitment to fair and accountable project execution.

The completed roads in Davao del Sur and Samal bring the total recent FMR investments in the region to over P260 million. These upgrades are expected to enhance transport efficiency for farmers and traders. DA-Davao continues to monitor project implementation while maintaining open communication on funding and procurement procedures.
