Da Nang’s border guardians race to save lives ahead of Typhoon Kalmaegi
Dà Nẵng City's border guardian force sprang into action as Typhoon Kalmaegi approached. They assisted villagers in reinforcing structures and harvesting rice before the storm's landfall, while all fishing boats were ordered back to port for safety.
Heavy rainfall, predicted between 200mm and 400mm, was expected across the region. The coastal stretch from Dà Nẵng to Đắk Lắk faced winds of 62 to 88 km/h and gusts up to 133 km/h. As the typhoon neared on November 5, rescue efforts were underway. A border guardian ship rescued a sick 72-year-old woman from Chàm Islands to Dà Nẵng City's hospital. Another rescue ship towed a fishing boat (DNa 90307TS) with a broken engine to Thọ Quang port. Land clearance and traffic recovery continued in mountainous areas and along the coastal dyke system since last week.
Typhoon Kalmaegi's impact on Dà Nẵng City and surrounding areas was significant, with heavy rainfall and strong winds. The border guardian force played a crucial role in rescue and recovery efforts, ensuring the safety of residents and fishermen.
