Daniela Melchior takes charge of Lüneburg’s police with decades of leadership
Daniela Melchior has officially begun her tenure as the new head of the Lüneburg Police Directorate. Lower Saxony’s Minister of the Interior, Sport, and Digitalization, Daniela Behrens, formally welcomed her on 1 July 2025.
Melchior, who has served in law enforcement since 1987, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Most recently, she headed the Public Safety Division at Hamburg’s Ministry of the Interior and Sport. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Director of the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office. Melchior was seconded to the Lüneburg Police Directorate in June 2025 to facilitate a smooth handover from outgoing Police President Thomas Ring.
Minister Daniela Behrens praised Melchior's extensive experience and expertise, expressing confidence in her ability to guide the police directorate with both security and a forward-looking approach.
Kathrin Schuol succeeds Oliver Kues as police president of the Lüneburg police directorate. Her appointment is effective from 1 July 2025, and she is expected to lead the directorate with her determination and experience.
