Dassault Aviation is pursuing the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project aggressively.

In a recent presentation of Dassault Aviation's half-year results, CEO Eric Trappier expressed his concerns about the potential impact of US tariffs on business jet activities. This French aircraft manufacturer, which is currently leading the development of the manned New Generation Fighter (NGF) component of the tri-national FCAS project involving France, Germany, and Spain, has faced significant tension within the consortium, especially with Airbus Defence & Space.

The FCAS project, an air combat system initiative, has been facing persistent problems, according to Dassault Aviation. These issues include problems with some suppliers that could potentially threaten production, as well as a lack of clear leadership. Trappier has repeatedly emphasised the need for a strong, empowered leader to streamline decision-making and work allocation, and has even threatened to withdraw from the project if these issues are not addressed.

The ongoing friction within the consortium has been a source of significant tension, with Dassault demanding more control and the ability to select subcontractors to avoid project delays or inefficiencies. However, as of the latest information in July 2025, there is no publicly reported concern about US tariffs impacting FCAS business jet activities or its related activities.

Despite these challenges, Dassault Aviation remains committed to leading the FCAS project with broad authority, including choosing subcontractors to ensure the best outcomes for the fighter jet development. The company's goal is to ensure the success of the FCAS project and maintain its position as a leading player in the global aircraft manufacturing industry.
