Davao del Sur governor brings hope to detained persons on birthday outreach
Davao del Sur Governor Yvonne Roña Cagas visited Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP Digos City Jail and Provincial Rehabilitation Center on March 10, 2026. The trip marked part of her annual birthday outreach, where she meets with marginalised groups across the province each March.
During the visit, Governor Cagas handed out food packs, hygiene kits, and essential supplies. Women PDLs received sleeping mats, while male PDLs were given bed mats—benefitting around 700 individuals in total.
She also oversaw the turnover of a newly constructed drainage system, valued at approximately ₱1,000,000. The governor recalled instructing its construction, along with new pathways, during a previous visit to improve facility conditions. The event included a simple gathering, with PDLs preparing small surprises and performing talents to express their gratitude. Jail Chief Inspector Jul Akbar Jamiri later noted how the governor's presence brought hope and inspiration to those detained. This visit follows Governor Cagas' tradition of spending her birthday month, culminating on March 13, with outreach activities. Past years have seen her visiting PDLs, underprivileged communities, and orphanages across Davao del Sur.
The governor's annual initiative continues to provide direct support to PDLs and other vulnerable groups. As of March 17, 2026, official statistics on the total number of PDLs in Davao del Sur for the year have not yet been released by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
