Daylight Saving Time Bill Returns: Senate Showdown This Weekend

This weekend, as daylight saving time ends, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators, led by Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), has reintroduced the 'Sunshine Protection Act'. The act aims to make daylight saving time permanent, but it faces opposition in the Senate.

The 'Sunshine Protection Act', sponsored by Sen. Scott and a bipartisan group, seeks to end the bi-annual clock changes. The legislation was introduced in early 2025, following the Senate's previous blockage of a similar bill.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) joined Sen. Scott in pushing for the act's approval. However, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) objected to the quick passage of the legislation, preventing its immediate advancement.

Despite the setback, the 'Sunshine Protection Act' remains on the table as daylight saving time ends this weekend. The act's fate now lies in the hands of the Senate, where further debate and potential compromise may occur.
