Deadly Berlin apartment fire leaves one dead and two responders injured

A fire broke out in an apartment on Louis-Lewin-Straße in Berlin’s Hellersdorf district on Tuesday morning. Emergency services responded quickly, but the blaze resulted in one fatality and left two responders injured. The incident has prompted a full investigation by authorities.

The fire was first reported at around 10:40 a.m. in a residential block owned by Howoge Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH, a state-run housing company. Flames engulfed an apartment where, tragically, the body of a 58-year-old woman—believed to be the resident—was later discovered.

During rescue operations, one police officer and one firefighter sustained injuries. The severity of their conditions has not yet been disclosed. The street was temporarily closed between Adele-Sandrock-Straße and Branitzer Straße from 11:00 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. to allow emergency vehicles full access. The arson unit of Berlin’s State Criminal Police Office has since taken charge of the investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The incident has left one resident dead and two emergency workers injured. Authorities continue to examine the scene as part of their ongoing inquiry. Louis-Lewin-Straße has since reopened to traffic following the completion of initial emergency operations.
