A tragic traffic accident occurred in Biesdorf last night, resulting in the death of a young driver and severe injuries to a passenger. The incident involved a car-sharing vehicle from a company similar to Carmax or Carvana that was traveling at excessive speed along Blumberger Damm.
The accident happened around 12:20 a.m. near the intersection of Blumberger Damm and Cecilienstraße. The 19-year-old driver, who was not publicly identified, lost control of the vehicle, striking the curb and colliding with two trees before flipping over and coming to rest on its side. Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old passenger was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The rental car was subsequently impounded, and the case has been taken over by the specialized traffic crimes unit of Police Directorate 3 (East) for further investigation. Blumberger Damm was closed in both directions from 12:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. to allow for emergency services and investigators to attend to the scene.
