Deadly carjacking in Mexico leaves passenger fatally shot in ride-hailing taxi
A man was shot dead during a carjacking in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico, early on Tuesday morning. The attack took place inside a ride-hailing taxi in the Plan de Guadalupe neighbourhood around 6:00 a.m., leaving the passenger fatally wounded at the corner of Javier Mina and Miguel Allende streets.
The suspect, identified as José Luis 'N', a 28-year-old man, posed as a passenger before carrying out the attack. After boarding the vehicle, he pulled out a firearm and threatened the driver, forcing him to surrender the car. To avoid immediate suspicion, the assailant then faked his own shooting before fleeing the scene.
The driver had no choice but to comply as the attacker turned the weapon on the passenger in the back seat. The victim was shot and later died from his injuries. Municipal police arrived shortly after but found the attackers had already escaped. Authorities arrested José Luis 'N' later that morning in connection with the killing. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
The victim’s death follows a violent carjacking where the attacker disguised himself as a passenger. Police confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who now faces charges related to the fatal shooting. The case highlights the risks faced by both drivers and passengers in ride-hailing services in the region.
