In the early hours of March 28, 2026, a fire broke out in a residential building in Griesheim at around 5:30 a.m. A multi-family home on Mozartstraße burned completely and is now uninhabitable. Firefighters from Griesheim, Pfungstadt, and Weiterstadt brought the blaze under control. The firefighting efforts led to a temporary road closure in the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest a technical malfunction as the likely cause of the fire. Four people were injured—one seriously—and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. Uninjured residents have been relocated to temporary accommodations and are receiving psychological support if needed. The fire caused extensive property damage, though the exact financial loss will be determined by an assessor.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the criminal investigation unit (K10) at Darmstadt Police.
