Deadly head-on collision on Federal Highway 27 leaves one dead, seven injured

INITIAL REPORT:

A tragic traffic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon (March 28) at around 3:50 p.m. on Federal Highway 27 near Bebra – Asmushausen, resulting in one fatality. According to current information, a Mercedes AMG from the Werra-Meißner district, traveling northbound, attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead. During the maneuver, the Mercedes AMG collided with an oncoming Škoda from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. The Škoda's driver sustained such severe injuries in the impact that, despite the efforts of emergency responders, they died at the scene.

A second Škoda from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, also traveling southbound like the first, subsequently crashed into the accident site, injuring its occupants. Preliminary reports indicate a total of seven people were injured in the collision.

Emergency services deployed included five ambulances, two emergency physician response vehicles, and a rescue helicopter. Approximately forty firefighters from the Bebra Fire Department were also on site. Due to rescue and recovery operations, Federal Highway 27 remains fully closed in both directions as of 6:20 p.m.

The Fulda Public Prosecutor's Office has commissioned a forensic accident analyst to reconstruct the exact sequence of events. The estimated property damage to all three vehicles currently stands at around €170,000. Further updates will be provided as soon as additional verified details become available.
