Decades of Devotion: Volunteers Honored for Lifelong Public Service

District Administrator Tanja Schweiger has recognised volunteers for their long-standing dedication to public service. The ceremony highlighted contributions from members of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), Bavaria State Association. Awards were presented to individuals with decades of commitment in emergency response and community work.

Eight volunteers received the Long Service Medal on Ribbon for 25 years of service in the THW. Andreas Eichelhardt, Melanie Heiss, Thomas Heiss, Jürgen Meßmann, Robert Pflamminger, Lothar Schmaus, Franz Treintl, and Thomas Renner were all honoured for their quarter-century of work. Their roles have included disaster response, technical assistance, and community support across the region.

Siegfried Matschi was awarded the same medal for an even longer contribution—40 years in the THW. His decades of service have spanned multiple operations and training initiatives within the organisation. Bernd Schwenk of Alteglofsheim received a separate accolade: the Bavarian Minister-President's Medal for Meritorious Volunteer Service. His involvement in marksmanship has stretched over 30 years, during which he has held various leadership positions. The award reflects his sustained efforts in promoting safety and skill development within the discipline.

The recognitions come as part of an ongoing effort to acknowledge volunteer work in the district. While no active THW chapters are currently listed in Landkreis Straubing-Bogen itself, the contributions of these individuals have supported wider regional and state-level operations. Their awards mark both personal milestones and the broader impact of long-term volunteerism.
