Defense conglomerate Diehl Group to establish a manufacturing facility for military equipment within Romania
Diehl Aviation, a leading aerospace and defence supplier, has partnered with Romanian real estate developer Global Vision to establish a new production facility in Almaj, Dolj County, Romania. The factory, spanning 13,000 square meters within the Craiova Industrial Hub, is set to create over 500 jobs and strengthen Romania’s position in the European aerospace and defence sector.
The facility, scheduled for completion within 12 months, will focus on manufacturing aviation and defence components. It forms part of Diehl Aviation’s expansion in Romania, complementing their existing investments such as Diehl Controls in Brașov. The project is a strategic commitment to attracting advanced industries to the Dolj region and stimulating sustainable economic growth.
Sorin Preda, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Global Vision, stated that the project reflects a joint commitment to excellence in the aerospace sector. The factory will incorporate future-forward production principles, including integrated digital workflows, lean manufacturing, energy-efficient infrastructure, AI-enabled manufacturing monitoring, and digital twin technologies. Diehl aims to certify the facility under aerospace quality standards like EN 9100 and ISO 14001 to ensure seamless integration into the global aerospace supply chain.
The partnership and factory carry significant impact. They will create a substantial number of skilled jobs (500+), boosting local employment and the economy. The new facility will enhance Romania’s industrial capacity and appeal as a strategic manufacturing base for aerospace and defence in Europe. The project also promotes advanced manufacturing techniques and digital transformation in the regional industry.
Moreover, the factory is expected to support long-term regional development in Dolj County and facilitate the attraction of other high-tech businesses through improved infrastructure and industrial ecosystem growth. The formal presentation of the factory will take place at a ceremony in Almaj at the end of July, symbolizing a milestone in Diehl Aviation’s global production footprint expansion.
