Demow honours Assam Agitation martyrs in solemn Martyrs Day ceremony

Martyrs Day was observed at Demow Raichai Rural Stadium on Wednesday. The event, organised under the Demow Co-District Commissioner Office, honoured those who sacrificed their lives during the Assam Agitation. Dignitaries, officials, and local participants gathered to pay their respects in a solemn ceremony.

The programme began with the singing of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s Swahid Pranamu Tumak, a tribute to the martyrs. Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of the 95 Demow constituency, led the swahid tarpan—a ritual offering to the fallen. He later urged the younger generation to remember the bravery of those who fought during the Assam Agitation.

The event concluded with tributes to those who lost their lives in the Assam Agitation. Local leaders and officials reaffirmed the importance of preserving the memory of their sacrifices. The programme marked another step in the region’s ongoing recognition of its history.
