State Visit of Particular Significance - Denmark's King and Queen make historic first state visit to Australia

King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark have begun their first state visit to Australia since taking the throne in January 2024. The six-day trip, running from March 14 to 19, follows an invitation from Governor-General Sam Mostyn. Their schedule will focus on cultural exchange, trade, and discussions on green energy and economic security.

The royal couple's connection to Australia dates back years. Queen Mary, originally from Tasmania, first met King Frederik in Sydney in 2000. Their visit now marks a return to the country in an official capacity.

The trip will include a stop at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, where Anangu Elders will welcome them with the traditional Inma dance. Later, they will watch the sunset over Uluru from a nearby lookout. Another highlight is a visit to the Kulata Academy Café, where they will meet students training in hospitality. Before arriving in Australia, the Danish royals attended a state visit to Germany on March 12-13, 2026. There, 25 Danish companies showcased expertise in wind power, hydrogen, biotech, and AI. In Australia, 55 Danish firms will join a trade initiative centred on renewable energy and sustainable urban development. The visit aims to deepen ties between Denmark and Australia in culture, trade, and foreign policy. Key topics include the green energy transition and economic cooperation.

The state visit concludes on March 19 after a series of cultural and trade-focused events. The royal couple's engagements will highlight partnerships in renewable energy, education, and Indigenous traditions. This trip marks their first official visit to Australia as monarchs.
