Desigual welcomes back Marc Calabia as product director amid brand revival
Desigual has named Marc Calabia as its new product director. He returns to the brand after previously holding the same role between 2013 and 2018. His appointment follows a period of strategic changes aimed at revitalising the company's image and product lines. Calabia replaces Fernanda Blasco, who took on the product director position in December 2024. He brings years of fashion industry experience, having worked at brands like Levi Strauss and The Body Shop. At Desigual, he will join the eight-member executive committee and collaborate closely with founder Thomas Meyer, the company's chief design officer.
Desigual has been reshaping its brand since 2019, when it launched a restructuring plan to appeal to a younger, bolder audience. Campaigns like *Desigualand*, featuring actress Ester Expósito, and brand pillars such as *Wear Joy* and *Freedom Fits All* pushed emotional expression and inclusivity. The product range was updated with bold denim styles, colourful knit dresses, and layering pieces, while the *Desigual Inbeta* line introduced collaborations. In 2024, the company reported a net profit of €313,331, marking a return to profitability despite a 5.81% drop in revenue to €332.07 million. Organic sales growth remained positive, reflecting progress from the 2019 strategy. A new growth plan, set for 2026, will guide the brand through to 2029.
Calabia's return comes as Desigual continues to refine its direction under Meyer's creative leadership. The brand's recent financial recovery and strategic shifts suggest a focus on long-term stability. His experience and familiarity with the company are expected to support its evolving product vision.
