Dhaka court issues arrest warrants for 102 over fish trader’s fatal shooting
A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for 102 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the shooting death of fish trader Nabi Nur Morol. The incident occurred during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Savar on July 20, 2024, and the case has since moved forward with a charge-sheet filed in September.
Nabi Nur Morol, a fishmonger, was allegedly shot on July 20, 2024, while protests swept through Savar. He died the following day at Enam Medical College Hospital. His wife, Akhlima Begum, filed a murder case on September 4, 2024, prompting an investigation.
The case against the 102 accused, including high-profile political figures, will proceed with the next key date set for February 2026. The court’s decision to issue arrest warrants follows the formal submission of charges and the victim’s family’s pursuit of justice. Legal action will now focus on locating and detaining those named in the warrants.
