Dhaka University Students March for Fair Teesta Water Share
Dhaka University students, led by Professor Abdullah Al Mamun, staged a torch procession to demand a fair share of Teesta water for North Bengal residents. The procession, which started at the Anti Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture and ended with a rally on campus, saw protesters chanting slogans highlighting their plight.
Professor Mamun, who serves as the provost of Salimullah Muslim Hall, urged all political organizations on campus to unite and work together for the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan. He asserted that the people of Bengal will no longer tolerate India's aggressive attitude regarding Teesta water, stating, 'We demand our rightful share of Teesta water.'
The procession, which was held to support the demands of North Bengal residents, called for the protection of riverside dwellings and croplands from erosion. Protesters also demanded the immediate implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, which aims to manage and distribute the river's water more equitably.
The torch procession, led by Professor Mamun, underscored the growing frustration among North Bengal residents regarding the Teesta water issue. With the support of Dhaka University students, they continue to press for their fair share of the river's water and the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.
