DHL workers launch ‘winter storm warning’ strike over wage demands

Employees at DHL Home Delivery in Braunschweig and Staufenberg will stage a winter storm warning on Wednesday, following the collapse of collective bargaining talks in Bielefeld. Verdi, the union representing the workers, is calling for an 8% wage increase and a reduction in the standard workweek.

The winter storm warning comes after the second round of talks between Verdi and the employers' association failed to reach an agreement in early November. Verdi is pushing for an 8% increase in wages for unionized employees and trainees, as well as a reduction in the standard workweek from 39.5 to 38.5 hours under a 12-month collective agreement.

The companies involved in the strike-like action on Thursday have not been named, but the Verdi regional association Niedersachsen-Bremen has confirmed that employees at DHL Home Delivery in Braunschweig and Staufenberg will participate in the winter storm warning on Wednesday.

The winter storm warning is set to take place on Wednesday, with further details about the companies involved expected to be released by Verdi. The union's demands include an 8% wage increase and a shorter workweek, following the breakdown of recent collective bargaining talks.
