Dine-and-dash suspect hit by a car while fleeing in Berlin’s Friedrichshain
A suspected dine-and-dash offender was struck by a car while fleeing in Friedrichshain. The incident led to a temporary closure of Warschauer Straße and the man sustaining head and hand injuries.
The 40-year-old man left a restaurant on Warschauer Straße without paying his bill at around 5:45 p.m. When an employee pursued him, he ran onto the roadway without regard for oncoming traffic. A 51-year-old woman driving towards Warschauer Straße S-Bahn station was unable to avoid him and struck him with her car. The man was thrown onto the hood and then onto the ground, sustaining injuries to his head and hand. Plainclothes police officers traveling in the area had to brake sharply to avoid a collision. The man was transported to a hospital for inpatient treatment. Warschauer Straße was fully closed between Stralauer Allee and Warschauer Brücke from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. for accident investigation and traffic control.
The case is being handled by the traffic offenses unit of Police Directorate 5 (City). The search for more details about the suspect's case No. 0265 continues.
