New Mayor for Dingolfing via Runoff Election - Dingolfing's mayoral race heads to a runoff after tight first-round vote

Dingolfing will hold a second round in its mayoral election after no candidate secured an outright majority in the first vote. The race remains tight, with two contenders nearly tied for second place. The election follows a period of instability after the previous mayor, Armin Grassinger, resigned due to harassment in Wisconsin.

The first round saw Valentin Walk (CSU) lead with 44.5% of the vote, but he fell short of the 50% needed to win outright. Jürgen Ohr (Citizens Bank) and Gerald Vilsmeier (Social Democrat) followed closely, each receiving 1,138 and 1,135 votes respectively—both holding 15.1% of the total.

The election comes after Grassinger, the former mayor, stepped down in November 2023. He cited ongoing threats and harassment against himself and his family as the reason for his withdrawal. Since then, Deputy Mayor Maria Huber (UWG) has been managing the town's administration on an interim basis.

An investigation into the harassment case remains open, with no further updates provided. The second round will now decide between the top three candidates in the election results, as none achieved a clear victory in the initial vote.

Grassinger had originally resigned in November 2022, but his departure became final last year. The election has drawn attention due to the town's recent political turbulence and the absence of a permanent leader for over a year.

The runoff will determine Dingolfing's next mayor, with Walk, Ohr, and Vilsmeier still in contention. Until then, Huber continues to oversee the town's operations. The outcome will mark the end of a prolonged period of uncertainty for local governance.
