Dirk Hoffmeister will run for BSW faction chair - Dirk Hoffmeister poised to lead Thuringia's BSW faction unopposed
Thuringia's BSW parliamentary group is set to elect a new leader next Wednesday. Dirk Hoffmeister, the faction's current education spokesperson, will stand as the only candidate. His election follows Frank Augsten's decision to step down from the role.
Augsten announced his resignation to focus on his specialist policy work. He will remain in office until the vote takes place.
Before entering politics, Hoffmeister worked as a grammar school teacher and later became a headmaster. He also held a role in teacher training. His background in education aligns with his current position as the BSW faction's spokesperson on education policy.
No other candidates have been put forward for the leadership position. The faction has confirmed that Augsten will continue in his role until the election. Once the vote is complete, he will shift his attention to other policy areas within the party.
The transition comes as the BSW group prepares for its next phase in the Thüringer Landtag. Hoffmeister's experience in both education and party politics positions him as a natural successor to Augsten.
The election will take place on Wednesday, with Hoffmeister expected to take over immediately after. Augsten's departure from the leadership role marks a shift in focus for the outgoing faction leader. The BSW group will proceed with its new leadership structure once the vote is finalised.
