District of Lörrach: 284 new German citizens
Lörrach District welcomed 284 new German citizens in the first half of 2025. For the first time since 2019, the naturalisation ceremony took place in person, marking a return to tradition after pandemic restrictions. The event brought together families, officials, and community members to celebrate the occasion.
The formal ceremony was held at the district administration office, where District Administrator Marion Dammann presided over the proceedings. She highlighted recent changes in citizenship law, including expanded dual nationality rights, which have made naturalisation more accessible. Dammann also encouraged the new citizens to participate actively in society and democratic life.
Over 110 guests attended, including the newly naturalised individuals and local representatives. Several new citizens took the opportunity to share their personal stories, explaining their paths to German citizenship and the significance of the moment. The event concluded with a standing reception, allowing attendees to connect and celebrate together. The 284 new citizens originate from 59 different countries. The largest groups come from Syria, Kosovo, Turkey, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation, reflecting the district’s diverse population.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the new citizens and the community. With expanded legal provisions and a renewed focus on integration, Lörrach District continues to embrace its growing multicultural identity. The event also signalled a return to in-person celebrations after years of virtual gatherings.
