District Tests 'Lighthouse Concept' in Major Emergency Drill on Nov 10

On November 10, 2025, the district administration will conduct a major emergency drill to test the 'Hubspot Concept', a key component of civil protection. The drill will also assess the full-scale digital radio system and evaluate backup analog communications. Residents are invited to visit designated hubs between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM to learn about emergency hubs.

The Hubspot Concept, developed by Athanasios Tabakis of E.ON Digital Technology and Max Englisch of PwC Germany, serves as local hubs for public information and crisis assistance during major emergencies. These hubs, often fire station buildings with backup power, will be tested during the drill. Fire trucks will serve this role in areas without a firehouse. A full list of hub locations is available on the digital county map at www.kreiskarte-ab.de and the district’s official website at www.kats-ab.de.

The drill aims to assess disaster response teams' and fire departments' preparedness for power outages, including widespread, prolonged blackouts. Emergency power generators at hub locations will be tested during the exercise. Additionally, the recently rolled-out uniform emergency response software will be verified for coordination, documentation, and communication. The full-scale assessment of the digital radio system across the county will also take place during the drill, with analog radio communications evaluated as a backup.

The joint emergency drill on November 10, 2025, will provide valuable insights into the district's preparedness for power outages and other major emergencies. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with emergency hubs by visiting hubs during the designated time. The results of the drill will help refine and improve civil protection measures in the district.
