Dormagen honors 81 years of freedom with solemn liberation ceremony

A wreath-laying ceremony will mark the 81st anniversary of Dormagen's liberation from Nazi rule. The event, open to all residents, will take place on March 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. by the town hall's memorial. Local students and officials will lead the tribute to remember the city's history under World War II.

The ceremony honours the day Allied forces freed Dormagen on March 5, 1943. Organised by resident Egmont Worms, it will gather representatives from local clubs and associations. First Deputy Mayor Katja Creutzmann and students from Bertha von Suttner Comprehensive School will lay the wreath together.

The memorial stands beside the main entrance of the historic town hall. Attendees are encouraged to join in reflection and remembrance. The event remains a key moment for the community to acknowledge its past.

The 2024 ceremony continues Dormagen's tradition of marking its liberation. It provides a public space for residents to honour those who lived through the war. The wreath-laying will serve as a reminder of the city's history and the significance of March 5, 1943.
