Dormagen Marks 87th Kristallnacht Anniversary with Youth-Led Memorial
On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., a memorial event will take place at the Jewish cemetery on Zonser Heide to commemorate the 87th anniversary of Kristallnacht. The event is organized by young people from several schools in Dormagen and is open to all interested citizens.
The ceremony will begin with remarks by Mayor Erik Lierenfeld, followed by contributions from students of Bertha-von-Suttner Comprehensive School, Bettina-von-Arnim Gymnasium, Hackenbroich Realschule, and Leibniz Gymnasium Hackenbroich. Regina Nawrot, deputy chair of the Dormagen-Kiryat Ono Partnership Association, will recite a prayer. The event will conclude with Mayor Lierenfeld and association chairman Uwe Schunder laying a floral tribute.
Male visitors are requested to wear head coverings on the cemetery grounds, with kippahs available upon request. After the commemoration, attendees are invited to gather at Zons’ Friedenskirche for soup and drinks.
The memorial event serves as a reminder of the tragic events of Kristallnacht and a testament to the ongoing commitment to remembrance and understanding. All are welcome to participate in this solemn and significant ceremony.
