Dortmund police arrest two after night of break-ins and vandalism
Two people were arrested in Dortmund early on Monday after a night of attempted break-ins and vandalism. Police responded to two separate incidents involving smashed windows, one at a gold dealer's shop and another on Münsterstraße. Both suspects were later charged but released pending further investigation.
The first call came just before midnight on Sunday, March 29. Officers arrived at a gold dealer's shop on Bäckerstraße, where the security glass of the display window had been shattered. A manhole cover was found beneath the broken window, but nothing appeared to have been stolen. Witnesses reported seeing two individuals running from the scene.
Less than an hour later, at around 12:45 a.m., police were alerted to another smashed window—this time at a business on Münsterstraße. Again, a manhole cover had been used to break the glass. Evidence suggested the same two suspects had fled toward Lünen's main train station. Near the station, officers stopped a man and a woman matching the descriptions. A search revealed a stolen bank card on the 24-year-old man from Hamm and narcotics on the 37-year-old woman from Werne. Both were taken into custody and later charged with attempted aggravated theft, property damage, and drug offences. They were released while investigations continue into the crimes and the origin of the bank card.
The suspects remain under investigation for their roles in the incidents. Police are still examining how the stolen bank card was obtained and whether the two cases are directly linked. No further arrests have been made at this time.
