Dortmund Police Officer Convicted in Shocking Child Sex Abuse Case
A 43-year-old police officer from Dortmund has been convicted of child sex offences after an investigation by the city's specialised unit, Soko KiPo. The case has led to stricter measures within the force, including an immediate ban on the accused entering any police premises. Authorities have also confirmed ongoing efforts to tackle child sexual abuse material as a top priority.
The officer, a civil servant in the Criminal Investigation Directorate since 2013, faced swift action once allegations emerged. Then-Police President Gregor Lange suspended him and launched dismissal proceedings. The accused was later barred from all police buildings in Dortmund.
Investigations by Soko KiPo have intensified since its launch in June 2022. The unit has identified 47 suspects linked to the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material. In recent operations, 12 more individuals were arrested, with new leads suggesting further suspects remain under investigation.
Deputy Police Chief Achim Stankowitz praised the court's ruling, calling it a strong deterrent against offenders. He reaffirmed the force's commitment to combating such crimes. Plans are now in place to make Soko KiPo a permanent unit by 2026.
North Rhine-Westphalia Police also provide mental health support for officers dealing with distressing cases. This measure aims to ensure the well-being of those handling highly sensitive investigations.
The conviction reinforces Dortmund Police's stance against child sexual abuse crimes. The specialised unit continues to uncover hidden networks, with 47 suspects already identified. By 2026, Soko KiPo will become a fixed part of the force's criminal investigation structure.
