Dortmund’s 2025 ‘Day of Values’ Honors Sinti and Roma Heritage Through Dialogue
Dortmund Police Headquarters' annual 'Day of Values' event returns in 2025, with a focus on the lives of Sinti and Roma communities. The event, organized in collaboration with the Multicultural Forum, aims to remember past injustices and engage with these communities today. The exhibition 'Race Diagnosis: Gypsy', funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, will be a key part of the event.
The idea for the 2025 theme emerged from a meeting between Roman Franz, Emanuela Dimova-Gombar, Police Chief Gregor Lange, and Gülay Köppen. Past speakers and guests have included sociologist Professor Aladin El-Mafaalani and Neven Subotić of the well:fair Foundation. The event will also feature the former Bundespräsident Christian Wulff as a guest speaker.
The State Association of German Sinti and Roma NRW, established 40 years ago, plays a crucial role in supporting these communities. It offers around 2,500 expert consultations annually in 12 languages, providing vital assistance and representation.
The 2025 'Day of Values' event promises to be a significant moment for dialogue and understanding. It will provide a platform for the voices of Sinti and Roma communities, remembering their past and celebrating their present. With the exhibition and high-profile speakers, the event is set to be both informative and thought-provoking.
