DPWH Vows to Complete Delayed Transcentral Highway by Q1 2026

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu City District Engineering Office has vowed to complete the delayed Transcentral Highway project by the first quarter of 2026. District Engineer Manolo Madronio signed a letter assuring the public of stricter monitoring and committed to taking corrective actions. The project's delay is due to poor performance of the original contractor, Mortar Masters and Concrete Builders, which led to its contract termination at the end of 2024.

The project, which involves 370 linear meters of pavement reconstruction, began in December 2021 but was halted due to Typhoon Odette. Work resumed in late 2022, but progress was slow. The DPWH issued a show cause order in September 2024 due to the slow pace of work, leading to the contractor's eventual termination.

Mayor Nestor Archival has demanded accountability and required DPWH contractors to submit letters of undertaking with defined and binding deadlines before securing permits. The remaining work was awarded to WTG Construction, and interim measures such as asphalt overlay and safety barriers have been implemented to ease traffic.

DPWH Cebu City District Engineer Manolo Madronio has assured the public that the Transcentral Highway project will be completed by the first quarter of 2026. Stricter monitoring and corrective actions are promised to ensure the project's completion. The project is critical to addressing a 2020 road collapse and improving mobility between Cebu City and its upland barangays.
