Dresden-Neustadt votes to transform Rudolph-Leonhard-Straße into a safer community hub
Dresden-Neustadt’s district council has unanimously backed plans to calm traffic on Rudolph-Leonhard-Straße. The move aims to ease congestion and improve safety for locals, especially children walking to school. If approved by the city, the street could become a quieter, more community-focused space before nearby construction begins.
The proposal targets long-standing traffic issues in the Hecht area and surrounding neighborhoods. Residents have faced heavy through-traffic, a problem expected to intensify once renovations start on Königsbrücker Straße. The council wants to act now to protect the quality of life in central Neustadt.
If approved, the changes would reduce through-traffic and create a safer, more welcoming environment for families. The plan also seeks to turn Rudolph-Leonhard-Straße into a neighborhood hub rather than just a busy thoroughfare. Final decisions now rest with the city’s committees.
