Driver arrested after 900 pounds of liquid meth found in truck's fuel tank
A Mexican driver has been arrested at a San Diego border crossing after US officials found nearly 900 pounds of liquid methamphetamine hidden in his truck's fuel tank. The discovery took place during a routine inspection at the Otay Mesa Import Cargo Facility on Friday.
Oscar Alonzo Cesena Camacho was stopped while driving a tractor-trailer from Mexico into the US. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers examined the vehicle and detected anomalies in the fuel tank.
Inside, they uncovered 29 five-gallon buckets containing a liquid mixture of methamphetamine and diesel. The total weight of the seized drugs reached 944 pounds. Camacho now faces federal charges for importing a controlled substance. If convicted, he could receive a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with a possible life term and a $10 million fine.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to intercept drug smuggling at US ports of entry. The seized methamphetamine, concealed in diesel fuel, represents one of the larger liquid drug busts at a land crossing in recent years.
