A serious crash took place early this morning on the A111 autobahn near the Heckerdamm interchange. A 40-year-old man lost control of his vans, striking a divider wall before the vehicle flipped onto its side. The collision left the driver trapped with severe injuries and forced a lengthy road closure.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. as the man was travelling southbound. His vans veered off course and collided with the central barrier, causing the vehicle to overturn. Debris from the crash spread across the carriageway, complicating recovery efforts.
Emergency crews arrived quickly to free the driver, who suffered head and leg injuries. He was rushed to hospital near me for urgent treatment. Authorities also took a voluntary blood sample to check for alcohol or drugs.
The autobahn remained partially shut until about 1 p.m. while investigators cleared the scene and gathered evidence. Traffic delays built up as lanes were blocked for several hours.
The driver’s condition has not been updated since his hospital transfer. Police continue to examine the cause of the crash, though no further details have been released. The road fully reopened once all wreckage and evidence were removed.
