Driver Dies After Alleged Assault Over Unpaid Wages in Kumarkhali
A 57-year-old driver, Islam Shahidul, died at his workplace in Kumarkhali Municipality on Wednesday following an alleged assault over unpaid wages. Islam Shahidul was found unconscious in room 101 of the municipal building and later declared dead at a local health centre. The incident has sparked protests and calls for justice from his family and residents. The confrontation took place at around 9:30am inside the municipal office. Islam Shahidul had reportedly locked several rooms in protest before clashing with Firozul Islam, a surveyor at the municipality. His daughter, Subarna Khatun, claimed that her father had been repeatedly denied wages and was punched by Firozul when he demanded payment. Islam Shahidul's death follows a dispute over wages that had remained unresolved for years. Police investigations are ongoing, and officials have pledged to take action against those responsible. The case has also highlighted broader concerns about wage arrears affecting municipal workers in Kumarkhali.
