Teenager Hit by Car - Cabrio Driver Back in Court - Driver’s €12K fine for injuring teen sparks appeals over leniency
A 48-year-old man has been convicted for negligently injuring a 13-year-old boy in a car accident on Rügen island. He was fined €12,000 and had his driver's license revoked for 18 months. However, both the public prosecutor's office and the victim's parents have appealed the initial conviction at the Stralsund District Court.
The man was initially charged with dangerous interference with road traffic, but the court found no evidence of premeditation. He will now face trial at the Stralsund Regional Court for negligently injuring the boy. The accident occurred on 14 August last year, but details surrounding the incident remain unclear. It is unknown why the man allegedly targeted his vehicle at the youngster.
The man's trial at the Stralsund Regional Court is yet to take place following the appeal. The initial conviction and sentence have been challenged by both the public prosecutor's office and the victim's parents, seeking a harsher penalty for the negligent act that left the boy severely injured.
