The German Red Cross (DRK) Water Rescue in Berlin, comprising 160 volunteers and lifeguards, played a crucial role during the summer festival season. They operated from early May to late September, safeguarding public events and waterways across the city.
The DRK Water Rescue operates three stations: Alt-Gatow, Breitehorn, and Wannsee. Their team, consisting of lifeguards, divers, and patrol boat operators, covered a vast area including the Unterhavel river, Großer Wannsee, and several lakes in the chain of lakes Kleiner Wannsee.
During the summer season, the local volunteers performed 810 missions. Notably, they rescued 18 people from immediate danger. In total, they assisted approximately 1,100 people, demonstrating their commitment to water safety and emergency support.
