Drug-impaired e-scooter rider critically injured in high-speed crash near Bad Fallingbostel

A serious e-scooter accident took place shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, leaving one man with severe injuries. The rider, who later tested positive for drugs, crashed into a nearby field and required hospital treatment. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.

Separately, police in Bad Fallingbostel stopped another e-scooter rider late that same evening for suspected offences.

The crash happened when the rider lost control, likely because of excessive speed. Emergency services rushed to the scene, forcing a temporary road closure for rescue and recovery work. The injured man was taken to hospital, where his condition remains serious.

Police conducted a drug screening at the scene, which returned positive for THC and cocaine. A blood sample was taken, and officers immediately banned the rider from continuing his journey. Administrative proceedings have now been initiated against him.

In a separate case, a 29-year-old e-scooter user was stopped by police in Bad Fallingbostel later that night. The reasons for the stop have not yet been disclosed, but it follows a pattern of increased scrutiny on e-scooter safety.

Official traffic statistics for 2024 do not provide specific figures on severe injuries caused by speeding. While national data tracks overall road deaths—2,770 so far this year—it does not break down incidents involving e-scooters or speed-related harm in detail.

The injured rider remains under medical care after the crash. Police have opened administrative proceedings, and further legal steps may follow. Meanwhile, the temporary road closure has been lifted, and traffic has returned to normal. No updated figures exist on speed-related severe injuries in Germany this year, leaving broader trends unclear.
