Drunk bystander attacks paramedics in Krefeld during late-night call
A violent attack on emergency responders took place late on Saturday, December 27, in Krefeld. Paramedics treating a patient on Luisenplatz were assaulted by an intoxicated bystander, who was later arrested at the scene. The incident has led to criminal charges against the attacker.
At around 11:50 p.m., paramedics were attending to a man on Luisenplatz when an acquaintance of the patient suddenly attacked them. The assailant, a 24-year-old local resident, showed no clear provocation before launching the assault. One paramedic suffered minor injuries but remained on duty.
Police arrived quickly and took the attacker into custody. Tests later confirmed he was intoxicated, and a blood sample was collected at the station. Authorities have since charged him with assaulting law enforcement and emergency personnel.
The case will now proceed through the legal system, with the suspect facing formal charges. The injured paramedic continued working after the attack, though the incident has raised concerns about safety for emergency responders in the area.
