Drunk driver crashes after fleeing Berlin police checkpoint at 1:45 AM
The incident began at around 1:45 AM at the intersection of Motzener Straße and Nunsdorfer Ring. Police had set up a checkpoint when the driver ignored flashing blue lights, sirens, and repeated signals to pull over. Instead of stopping, he accelerated away from officers.
A short distance later, the man lost control of his vehicle and collided with a lamppost. Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene. The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution due to suspected internal injuries.
A voluntary breathalyser test revealed a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.2 percent—well above the legal limit. Police immediately confiscated his driving license. The case has since been transferred to the specialised traffic offences unit of Police Directorate 4 (South) for further examination.
The driver’s identity remains undisclosed to the public. His license was revoked on the spot, and he now faces potential charges related to drunk driving and evading police. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
