A 43-year-old man crashed his car on Federal Highway B10 near Lonsee after losing control while drunk. The vehicle rolled multiple times

The incident unfolded when the man, with a blood alcohol level of around 1.8 per mille, veered off the road. Instead of staying at the scene, he tried to flee on foot. Police arrived quickly but were assisted by a bystander who helped detain him.

His driver's licence was revoked immediately. Authorities have since launched an investigation into drunk driving and attempted hit-and-run. Regional data from 2025 shows alcohol-related accidents remain a persistent issue. North Rhine-Westphalia recorded 3,274 such incidents that year, while Bavaria reported 4,857. No national figures for the past 12 months are currently available.

The driver now faces legal consequences for his actions. His arrest followed a witness's intervention, which prevented his escape. The case highlights ongoing concerns about drink-driving on German roads.
