Drunk driver crashes stolen Renault into supermarket column in Berlin

A man was arrested in Berlin-Wedding after crashing a Renault into a support column in a supermarket parking lot on Reinickendorfer Straße. Police Directorate 1 (North) is investigating potential vehicle theft.

The 49-year-old suspect was found to have a blood alcohol level exceeding 3.9 per mille. He was not the registered owner of the Renault, which was parked nearby on Sprengelstraße. The owner, who was unaware of the suspect, had not given him permission to drive the car. The man was taken into custody and subjected to a blood test.

Investigations revealed that the Renault may have been stolen. The suspect was not found with any car keys or a driver's license. Further inquiries linked the suspect to a group of youths from North Rhine-Westphalia who have been connected to multiple thefts, including high-value cars. After being presented to a judge, the youths are now in custody in various prisons in NRW, with investigations ongoing.

The man's actions resulted in property damage to both the Renault and the support column. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the potential theft of the vehicle.
