Drunk driver flees after crashing his car onto Berlin tram tracks
A 29-year-old man fled the scene after crashing his car onto tram tracks in Berlin’s Marzahn district. The incident happened at around 8:10 p.m. at the intersection of Landsberger Allee and Allee der Kosmonauten. Police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver attempted a left turn onto Landsberger Allee but veered onto the tram tracks. His car struck an electronic signal marker, causing damage. Two passengers—a 21-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man—were in the vehicle but escaped unharmed. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the driver reportedly became aggressive. Before authorities could detain him, he left the scene on foot. Search teams were unable to locate him, though his wallet was found inside the car and collected as evidence. Landsberger Allee remained closed to tram traffic until about 9:15 p.m. while rescue crews worked and police documented the scene. The traffic investigation unit is now examining the case for possible hit-and-run and drunk driving offences. As of now, no suspect has been publicly named, and no arrest has been reported in connection with accident number 2409. The investigation into the crash continues, with authorities focusing on the driver’s alleged intoxication and his decision to flee. The damaged signal marker and the abandoned car will be key pieces of evidence. Tram services have since resumed normal operation on Landsberger Allee.
