Man Causes Accident in Emergency Lane and Assaults Paramedic - Drunk driver sparks A81 motorway chaos after fleeing crash scene
A 27-year-old man caused a major crash on the A81 motorway near Möglingen after driving under the influence through an emergency corridor. The incident led to injuries, significant property damage, and a violent confrontation with police and paramedics.
The man was speeding in the emergency lane when he sideswiped two vehicles before colliding with a 51-year-old driver's car. The crash resulted in €100,000 in estimated damages. Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
Instead of staying at the scene, the 27-year-old fled. Police later apprehended him on suspicion of drunk driving and ordered a blood test. During the procedure, he became severely agitated, resisting arrest and attempting to strike officers while shouting insults. Officers had to physically restrain him.
When a female paramedic tried to guide him to safety, he assaulted her, causing minor injuries. His erratic behaviour worsened, leading to a full psychological breakdown. Authorities eventually transported him to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.
This case follows similar incidents in Ludwigsburg. In February 2026, a 24-year-old driver crashed into a traffic light pole with a blood alcohol level of 1.4 promille, then falsely reported his Audi stolen. Another 28-year-old fled after hitting a tree near Unterriexingen, testing at 0.8 promille. Both faced charges for drunk driving and leaving the scene.
The 27-year-old now faces multiple charges, including drunk driving, fleeing the scene, resisting arrest, and assault. The injured paramedic and the other driver received medical treatment for minor wounds. Police continue to investigate the incident alongside previous cases of reckless driving in the region.
